Privacy, made plain.
This overview explains what Kitchen Diary stores, what stays on your device, and how to ask us to remove your account data.
What we collect
When you use Kitchen Diary, we may process:
- Your Google or Apple account identifier, display name, email address, and profile image when you sign in.
- Recipes, drafts, pantry selections, favourites, cooking history, collections, and community posts you choose to save or publish.
- Images you deliberately submit for menu analysis or recipe features.
- Apple or Google Play transaction identifiers and subscription status to verify purchases and provide access. Apple and Google Play handle payment details; Kitchen Diary does not collect full payment-card numbers.
How we use it
We use this information to provide the recipe builder, pantry matching, community features, account synchronisation, subscriptions, support, and security. A submitted menu image may be sent through our authenticated server endpoint to the configured AI provider to return an analysis. Browser-side Gemini calls are not used.
Where it lives
Device-first features use your browser or device storage so the core kitchen remains useful offline. Signed-in data is synchronised through the Firebase-backed Kitchen Diary services. We use service providers such as Firebase, Google Play, TheMealDB, and our configured AI provider only as needed to operate the features described above. The native iPhone/iPad app uses Apple StoreKit for Pro purchases; Apple handles payment details. Android subscriptions use Google Play. Native Apple menu-photo recognition uses Apple Vision on your device: those photos and extracted text are not uploaded for recognition. Other app versions may offer server-based analysis as described above. If historical billing records exist from a previous payment provider, changing the purchase channel does not automatically erase those records; contact us about access or deletion.
Nutrition tracking and sync
If you use nutrition tracking, we store your nutrition goals, food and nutrient logs, water intake, cooking streaks, achievements, and collections on your device. When you sign in, this state is also synchronised to your account in Google Firebase Firestore so it can be restored across devices. You can choose not to enter this information. Signing out or clearing device storage does not delete the cloud copy.
These account-linked records do not have an automatic expiry configured. To request removal of synced nutrition and other account data, follow our account deletion instructions. Payment providers may retain billing records under their own policies or legal obligations.
Your choices
- You can use the core kitchen without creating an account.
- You can clear device-local saved data from the app or your browser settings.
- You can stop using a feature, sign out, or ask us to delete account-linked data at any time.
- Community posts may remain visible as community content where required for conversation integrity; contact support if you need a post removed.
Children and changes
Kitchen Diary is not directed to children under 13. We may update this page when the product or its services change; the date above identifies the current version.
